Let’s put it this way: barbecue represents the best of summer. There’s no reason you can’t enjoy the flavor of summer even without a grill —or a grill pan, for that matter—as there are places you can enjoy delicious mouthwatering barbecues right in downtown Greenville. Cue in—Husk Barbeque. You heard that right.
Husk Greenville opened its door in downtown Greenville back in 2017. Back then it was a farm-to-table restaurant that focuses on hyper-local Southern food. Like most restaurants that were affected by COVID-19, Husk Greenville closed its door at the beginning of the pandemic. While Husk’s three other locations in Charleston, Nashville, and Savannah have reopened earlier with relatively minor changes, it wasn’t until December of 2020 when they decided to open their Greenville location, but with a new name, Husk Barbeque.
Husk Barbeque is the latest find for barbecue-loving folks. Though not new in the field, they certainly came back with a bang with their new concept — a casual everyday hangout spot that focuses mainly on smoked meats. Who doesn’t love barbecues? It is delicious, it appeals to a wider audience, and it is more affordable.
Travis Armour, the general manager of Husk Barbeque said the hiatus offered a chance to improve their business model for the new circumstances. They came up with a couple of ideas and ended up focusing on barbecue because they wanted to have a restaurant that was more approachable, more appealing to the public, and something that was more fun.
Watch the rest of our talk with Travis as he shares what’s new with Husk Barbeque after the restaurant pivot from farm to table into a more casual relaxing dining spot.
Husk Barbeque’s menu highlights smoked meats and meats cooked over live-fire embers. They also offer other traditional barbecue selections like baby back ribs, house-smoked sausages, brisket, and pulled pork. Prices range from $6 – $14 for appetizers and $14 – $24 for meals.
Fans of the original Husk will be happy to hear that they can still find their old-time favorites in the new Husk Barbeque menu like the famous burgers, the fried chicken, and pimento cheese.
What better way to partner your smoked meats than with a classic bourbon or whiskey? Come check out Husk Barbeque’s extensive selection of bourbons, 104 bourbons to be exact. They offer one of the region’s most extensive bourbon and whiskey lists from budget brands to top-shelf. On top of that, they also serve local beers on draft, signature frozen drinks, and seasonal cocktails. Their happy hour is open Tuesdays-Fridays from 4:00-6:00 pm.
And if you are looking for a Greenville caterer and are in need of catering services in the greater Greenville area, Husk Barbeque offers off-site barbecue catering services. You can pick from individually boxed lunch selections, seasonal party packs as well as options to order a la carte or in bulk. They offer a variety of drop-off and take-out options. Their upstairs dining room can also be booked for private parties or group dining for up to 60 guests.
Husk Barbeque serves mouthwatering smoked meats as well as Southern sides you’d expect of any great barbecue meal. Aside from its food, it offers a comfortable gathering place where you can enjoy a great bourbon or whiskey.
