Moving out after you sell your home also needs planning. You shouldn’t plan your move near closing or after you close the home you sell. You should start planning after you decided to sell your home coz it may look and sound simple but in reality it takes a lot of effort and you are going to need help.
Since moving is not an easy task, you need to be organized so it will be easier for you once you move. Having a checklist will help and make the moving easier. Here are a couple of things you need to do:
The cost of moving. You should have enough cash to cover travel, transportation and lodging especially if you are moving many miles away. You also have to consider which mover to use. Make sure that the mover you choose have the right equipment and experience, don’t just choose based on the cost. It is also good to be aware of the mover’s credentials and references to be sure that they have the experience to do a good job.
Pack for moving. If you have already sorted out your things right when you were preparing your home for sale on the market, it will save you a lot of time.
Have you label the boxes of their contents? Make sure you label the boxes so you’ll know where they should go in your new house and don’t forget to separate your valuable things to a safe box.
Create a binder of your estimates, receipts, and list of all the items you’re moving. This way it will be easier for you to track everything.
Change your address. If you don’t want to miss your mails after you move, go to your local post office and fill out a change-of-address form. Alternatively, you can do it online via usps.com.
Notify important parties. Don’t forget to notify the bank, brokerage firms, utility companies, credit card, insurance, the human resources department of your employer, and the magazines and newspapers you subscribe to.
Organize important records. School records and medical records should be organized and arranged to be transferred to your new location.
