What can you add to the game of soccer that would make it more fun and safe? Bubbles! And we’re talking of giant plastic bubbles here.
If you haven’t heard about Bubble soccer, this new sport started in Europe. Like traditional soccer, the sport involves kicking a ball into a goal, only the players are wearing bubble suits pushing and bumping into each other.
Like any other contact sports, players run towards opponents with bubble-bound speed, but instead of being hurt from the impact, you will see them rolling over, with feet sticking out in the air. This sport kind of reminds us of sumo wrestling with inflatable costumes. It looks so much fun but don’t underestimate the game, because it is also a real cardio work out. Think about running and slamming into your opponents with a 15-pound bubble and then you have to pick the bubble and yourself up when you get bounced.
This new sport craze is becoming really popular across the country – and in Greenville too! Last spring, the first league for bubble soccer in Greenville started and it is back again this fall. Greenville County Recreation is opening the Coed & Men’s Fall Leagues on September 24th.
The league will last for 6 weeks and will be held at Pavilion Recreation Complex. A minimum of 7 and maximum of 15 per team is required. All players must be 15 years old and older. Team registration is open until Sept. 17th. For interested team you can visit the Greenville Rec Department website.
