Good thing for entrepreneurs, great location for business isn’t just found in the big cities. NerdWallet and Entrepreneur Media just recently held a study to find where the best opportunities in small cities are for those starting a business.
Greenville SC has been named as the 9th best small city to start a business. The study was determined by looking at 463 small cities — with populations between 50,000 and 100,000 — from around the country.
The Top 10 were:
- Alpharetta, Georgia
- Redmond, Washington
- Wilmington, Delaware
- Troy, Michigan
- Minnetonka, Minnesota
- Waukesha, Wisconsin
- Newport Beach, California
- Bethesda, Maryland
- Greenville, South Carolina
- La Crosse, Wisconsin
According to Nerdwallet, “A strong, established business community and a healthy local economy make Greenville one of the nation’s best places to start a business. Multinational companies have a strong local presence, such as Michelin and GE’s Power and Water division, but smaller businesses thrive in Greenville as well. Over 37% of businesses have paid employees, which is 45% higher than the 25.82% average of all small cities analyzed in this study. There are also 15.63 businesses per 100 residents, the second most in the top 10.”
One of the key factors for naming Greenville as one of the best small cities to start a business is its proximity to large metropolitan areas. Greenville is close to the two largest cities in the region, Atlanta and Charlotte. That allows companies in Greenville to operate within a smaller, close-knit business community while still having access to large nearby markets.
Aside from Greenville’s excellent location, entrepreneurs are also attracted to the city’s low cost of living and reasonable home prices.
Indeed, Greenville is a community that’s known for being open to business – big or small. The city businesses are alive and thriving making it a great area for economic investment. Greenville also provides numerous opportunities exist to live, work, and play.
