When viewing a home, it is recommended to spend more time viewing every nook and cranny of the property. So many spend so little time viewing a house and they live to regret it. After buying the house, buyers experience one problem after another – anything from dodgy wiring to noisy neighbors – which could have been avoided had they spent more time researching the property.
Here’s an essential list to look for when you are viewing a house. It will keep you from having problems in the future when you decide to make the house your home in the end.
- Structure. Is the home solid and structurally sound? Are there wall cracks? What’s the condition of the roof? Are the doors and windows intact? Are all the screens and storm panels there? Are the thresholds loose? Are there signs of rot?
- Location. Is the home convenient to your work or school? Is it near public transport? Is it near highways? Is it near shops, restaurants and other amenities?
- Privacy. Is the bathroom window peering right into your neighbor’s bedroom? Is your neighbor’s window overlooking your living room?
- Neighborhood and neighbors. What is the condition of other homes in the area? Can you deal with your neighbors’ dogs?
- Home layout. Does the layout of the house works with your lifestyle? Does it have an easy flow? It is spacious? Is it open and inviting?
- Heating and cooling system. Is there central heating? When was it last serviced? How old is it?
- Leak. Is there sign of flooding? Are watermarks anywhere? Is there damp? Is there sufficient drainage in the area?
- Lighting. Does the home get enough natural light?
- Space. Are the rooms big enough for your requirements? Is there enough storage space? Is there room for new cupboard or shelves to be built in?
- Updates. Does the property require updating? Is there serious work involved or just cosmetic?
