What: South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public information meeting Where: Cafeteria of Monarch Elementary School 224 Five Forks, Road, Simpsonville SC, 29681 When: Tuesday, March 17, 2015 Why: For the public to review and discuss with SCDOT representative the proposed widening of Woodruff Road and some improvements to Scuffletown and Adams Mill Roads. |
Anyone who passes on Woodruff Road especially in holiday seasons or even in the most ordinary days can tell how frustrating the traffic situation can be. Now thankfully, there is a proposed plan of road widening on Woodruff Road. Woodruff Road would be widened to 5 lanes from near Scuffletown Road to just beyond Bennetts Bridge Road. The project would also include wide outside lanes and sidewalks and some road improvements to Scuffletown Road and Adams Mill Road.
The proposed road widening is part of the city government’s way of easing the congestion on Woodruff Road as well as accommodating the future traffic demands along these roads. Woodruff Road looks like a mall parking lot in the worst days and it frustrates a lot of motorists. It’s just about time they begin fixing the frequently frustrating traffic.
March last year, the city organized a traffic committee to begin looking at possible solutions to fix the traffic congestion on Woodruff Road and find alternative route for people to get to shops and restaurants in Greenville’s main shopping district.
Woodruff Road and the surrounding areas of Five Forks are growing by leaps and bounds and we need to widen our roadways to accommodate this growth by increasing lanes and hopefully speeding up drivers’ commute times.
The public meeting is scheduled on March 17 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Monarch Elementary school’s cafeteria. It will be a drop-in type format with displays for viewing. The citizens will have the opportunity to comment in written form. Verbal comments will not be taken in this meeting, however, if there will be an official Public Hearing, the citizens are allowed to voice their comments.
As we get more information about the road widening project on Woodruff Road, we’ll put it on FB and on our website to keep you up-to-date.
