Avoiding Buyer’s Remorse

Buyer’s Remorse

buyers remorse Have you ever experienced feeling a sense of regret after you purchased something? You may have experienced this feeling a few times or more in your life, it may be a small thing that you can let slide after sometime but what if you felt buyer’s remorse after buying… let’s say a house? That would be a nightmare, a big financial mistake, something you wouldn’t wish to happen.

The good thing is you can avoid buyer’s remorse. With so many details in the buying process it is not surprising you can overlook some things, figuring out the important areas you should pay attention to will keep you away from making an expensive mistake.

When finding your next home, you should consider many things. Are you buying for resale value or for lifestyle? You must also consider if the home you choose will adapt to your life changes and if it fits your criteria and your family’s real estate needs. Create a wants and needs list before you decide to buy a home and review it. A house is one of the most expensive things you will buy in your life and you have to make sure that the house you’re going to buy is the right one for you.

How to avoid buyer’s remorse

Buyer’s remorse normally kicks in when you still look at other houses when your chosen house is already under contract. You will find remorse especially if you found a better house. What you need to do is stop looking at houses when you’ve made a choice. Only look at other homes for sale if you feel like your contract is going to fall apart.

Discussing the home you choose with your relatives and friends can also start that feeling especially if they are against your choice. But don’t be swayed. You alone know your real estate needs. In searching the home of your choice you have done your research and you are more familiar with the market and current prices than them.

If you’re in the closing process and if you have questions, reach out to your agent. Unanswered questions can lead to panic and panic leads to doubt. Contact your agent, they should guide you through the process.

If you are experiencing your own doubts, remember that staying positive will help. It is normal to become uncertain especially if it is an important commitment but if you stay positive it will give you a feeling that you’re in control.

Last thing; understand that a home buyer’s remorse is common. You are more prepared to handle it if you are already aware why it happens and deal with it before it sets in.

What Our Clients Are Saying…

"My husband and I met with Michael in mid-December, our house went on the market January 16th and was under contract January 19th. Michael and his team are amazing at what they do and did everything could to help us. We were out of our old house and in to the new one within a month of our house going under contract. I would highly recommend using the J. Michael Manley team for buying and/or selling. They made the hassle or buying and selling so easy and everything was very smooth."
