Greenville is on the spot light come February in C-SPAN’s Cities Tours series. C-SPAN —a public affairs cable network – team of producers and videographers have spent the past week in Greenville exploring historic sites and literary legacy of Greenville by speaking to local experts and public figures.
Greenville is going to be showcased to national audiences through the segments that highlight local authors, historians and civic leaders. Local segments recorded throughout the week will air on nonfiction book channel Book TV on C-SPAN2, channel 20 on Charter Communications, and history channel American History TV on C-SPAN3, channel 134 (Charter), during C-SPAN’s special Greenville, SC weekend Feb. 20-21st.
Subjects to be covered include the area’s textile mill history, the local civil rights struggle, Bob Jones University and its impact on Southern politics, the story of Rudolf Anderson during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Korean War, Furman University and its Baptist traditions, the South Carolina room of the main branch of Greenville County library system, and the creation of Falls Park and the Liberty Bridge.
The C-SPAN producing team is currently conducting a national Cities Tour, exploring the history and literary legacy of each of the places they visit. Greenville is the among the Cities Tours series to be featured in the first quarter of the year.
C-SPAN is available in Greenville on Charter Communications channels 19, 20, and 134.
