With the new expansion happening in Greer this spring, the $1B investment is guaranteed to fill more than 800 jobs to build X7, X3, X5, X6, and X4 models. This will boost the annual production capacity by 50%. From 300,000, it is expected to manufacture up to 450,000 vehicles by the end of 2016.
The expansion at Greer will include new 675,000 sq.ft body shop, new roads at the plant as well as an energy center and analysis center.
Since the start of BMW Manufacturing Co in Greer, this has been their fifth expansion. Since then, it has generated many job opportunities for the locals and has helped the economy of South Carolina. A previous study showed a multiplier linking each BMW job to 4.3 jobs created in South Carolina and it has invested $6 billion already in its operations.
Manfred Erlacher, CEO of the BMW said in his statement announcing the expansion, “The increase in annual capacity, the number of models produced and the number of jobs on-site reinforce the major role BMW is playing in the region’s economic vitality through technological innovation, environmental stewardship and development of a highly skilled workforce.”
The plant’s work force continually grows and is trying to fill more job position through their recruiting contractor, MAU Workforce Solutions.
These great job opportunities just add to the many reasons why it’s great to live in Greenville!
