Greenville Triumph Announces Plans for the Multi-purpose Stadium in Mauldin, SC

The Greenville Triumph picked Mauldin’s BridgeWay Station as its future home.

The proposal for a new stadium in Greenville County was announced last January 20th by team owner and chairman Joe Erwin. The $38.6 million, 8,100-seat stadium in Mauldin will bring sports tournaments from across the region and be home to the Greenville Triumph Soccer Club.

The new stadium will be built on a 38-acre mixed-use urban village development at BridgeWay Station in Mauldin, SC. BridgeWay Station was chosen due to its proximity to not only interstate travelers but the Swamp Rabbit Trail that will connect via a pedestrian bridge over Interstate 385.

The proposed stadium in Mauldin would be owned by Greenville County and will be leased to Greenville Triumph. The Greenville Triumph will be contributing the six acres of property on which the stadium will sit as well as $1.75 million in stadium seating. The public portion of the project’s financing is still being negotiated and reviewed with the city of Mauldin and Greenville County.

This public-private partnership will bring substantial economic activity to the Upstate once it opens. It is projected that the stadium will bring $270 million in economic development in its first decade of use. Below are the highlights:

  • $38.6 million stadium, 8,100 seats
  • 38-acres mixed used BridgeWay Station development in Mauldin near I-385
  • Will be owned by Greenville County
  • Public portion of construction cost expected to be financed through bond issue over 30 years
  • 150+ events every year
  • Triumph maintains facility and pays $350,000 annual lease for 30 years
  • The construction is expected to start in March or April and finish in time for the team’s 2023 season.

The stadium design, which is still being finalized, will feature a multi-use playing field. The structure can be used for other sports like rugby, lacrosse, and football. Joe Erwin adds that the stadium will serve not only as the home of the Triumph but of the United Soccer League (USL) and is thus likely to host playoff and championship matches. He says the venue will be a public asset that is expected to host as many as 150 concerts, festivals, and other events each year.

Erwin says the development will have restaurants and retail, office space, and residential area and, a new pedestrian bridge over I-385. The proximity of interstates to BridgeWay Station will make it easier for fans to not only come to games but to enjoy other attractions in the area. Have a family meal before and go out for a drink or a game of bowling after.

With support for professional sports evident by the Upstate’s love of the Greenville Drive, Erwin said he wants a similar model to offer affordable entertainment and accessibility for the entire region.

What Our Clients Are Saying…

"My husband and I met with Michael in mid-December, our house went on the market January 16th and was under contract January 19th. Michael and his team are amazing at what they do and did everything could to help us. We were out of our old house and in to the new one within a month of our house going under contract. I would highly recommend using the J. Michael Manley team for buying and/or selling. They made the hassle or buying and selling so easy and everything was very smooth."
