Rite Aid, a leading drugstore chain in the US with nearly 4,600 stores in 31 states announced its plan to build a 900,000 sq.ft distribution center in Spartanburg. The new distribution center will help optimize the supply chain across the Southeast and consolidate three of its existing distribution centers, located in Alabama, North Carolina, and West Virginia into one new facility.
John Standley, Rite Aid chairman and CEO said Spartanburg is an ideal location for their new distribution center. The new site offers easy access to market across the southeast. The new facility will also better serve Rite Aid’s stores and customers across the Southeast.
This plan will bring about hundreds of job opportunities in the Upstate. Once fully operational, the center will employ nearly 600 people. It will support the supply and inventory of the approximately 1000 Rite Aids stores in the Southeast.
Further announcement on employment opportunities will be made public in the second half of 2015. The facility is scheduled to open sometime in 2016.
