I am finding that people don’t know about the trolleys in downtown Greenville and find it very interesting when I tell them about it. First off, trolleys are a historic symbol, when you see one, it feels like you’re being thrown back in time! Trolleys used to be the king of the road way back as far as 1876 where Street Railway Co. laid tracks from the depot on Augusta Street, along Main Street and out to Washington Street.
Anyways, the trolleys we have today are owned by The Drive and is maintained and operated by the City. Fans enjoy the ride whenever there is a home game happening at Greenville Drive. The trolleys carry fans 2 hours before the games starts, the same goes when there are special events. But the service is also available when there are no games so you could ride it whenever you’re in downtown.
How to reach it: Anyone who wishes to ride the trolleys can wait at any intersection. Just wave a hand to get the attention of the driver. You can also wait at the bus stop in front of the Little Theater.
Where it goes: When there’s a game or event, the trolleys carry fans between County Square and West End Field. On weekends, when there are no games, the trolleys service guests along a route beginning at West End Field, heading north on Main St. The trolleys will turn left and head to Heritage Green where it stops at the bus stop lane to load/unload passengers.
How much does it cost? It is FREE!!!
Who rides it? Fans who love to watch the games at Greenville Drive whenever there’s an event and anyone going along the trolleys route.
Why is it so special? This is a unique form of public transportation that has been around since the late 1880s. There’s something special about riding trolleys. It’s like a throwback to another time.
