Low-interest Loans and Down Payment Assistance Up to $8000 are Now Available For Local Heroes Looking to Buy a Home
SC Housing has recently announced that the “Palmetto Heroes Program” is now back to give assistance toward home ownership to selected community personnel in the field of law enforcement, US army or air force, firefighting, education, and healthcare services.
If you are looking to buy a home and you work on any of the fields mentioned above, take the chance to apply for this program because you will have the opportunity to purchase a home with a 3% mortgage interest rate, 30 year fixed and down payment assistance of $5000 on an existing home and $8000 on a newly constructed home. The funding is limited and available on first-come-first-served basis so you have to grab it fast before it is gone.
Borrowers must meet SC Housing’s First Time Home Buyer requirements and underwriting guidelines and must be employed in South Carolina.
The initial qualifications for borrowers in the following fields are:
Law enforcement officers – must be full time employed as state or local enforcement officer and must be certified by the Law Enforcement Training Council as of the date of the loan application.
Fire Fighters, EMTs, and Paramedics – must be full time employed with a state or local government agency.
Correctional Officers – must be full time employed for the South Carolina Department of Corrections, SC Department of Juvenile Justice, or with a state, county or municipal detention center.
Teachers – must be a full time teacher or have a contract to begin teaching and must have a South Carolina Teacher Certification.
Nurses – Must be a registered nurse (RN), licensed practical nurse (LPN) or Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and licensed with the SC Board of Nursing. Certified Nurse Aides (CNA) must be listed on the SC Nurse Aide Registry. Borrowers must be a full time employee in a hospital, doctor’s office, school or medical facility.
SC National Guard Members – must be a member of good standing of the SC Army National Guard or SC Air National Guard as of the date of loan application.
Veterans – must have served on active duty in the US Armed Forces and received a discharge other than dishonorable within the past 25 years.
